Employment Opportunities

General Information

We are currently accepting applications for callers at MSU Greenline. If you are an enrolled and registered student at Michigan State University, you are eligible to apply.

You will be responsible for contacting MSU staff, friends and alumni across the country to build relationships and inform them on current MSU news and projects. You will also solicit funds from the person on the phone for the benefit of many different programs across Michigan State University.

If you are ready to submit your application now, follow the link the bottom of this page. If you still need convincing, scroll down and check out some of the many reasons to be a part of our organization.

Great Pay - $8.75/hr

All callers are eligible for a pay raise every semester based on performance and attendance. Also, callers are able to earn extra hours of pay nightly as a reward for achieving an established goal.

On top of that, student supervisors regularly distribute incentives to callers who show outstanding performance, enthusiasm and commitment to the program. These incentives include gift cards to local restaurants and attractions.

If you are a student looking for work study, MSU Greenline is the place for you.

Fun Environment

We are a student-run program. We work hard to make this an enjoyable place to work.

We do not have a dress code. As long as it's appropriate and not offensive to others you can wear whatever you'd like.

We play games to help you bond with your peers and make your work atmosphere 100% enjoyable.

The staff at MSU Greenline is unique and diverse, which helps us cater to your personal needs.

There are many opportunities throughout the semester to dress up for different theme shifts, play games, eat free food or talk to recruiters that come in to speak to the room.

Flexibility

Are you scheduled to work tonight but need more time to finish up a paper that is due tomorrow morning? At MSU Greenline, it's not a problem. New hires are authorized the following absences to help balance the expected and unexpected things that come up in our lives:

  • Excused (1): Just call into work and say you can't come in... that's it!
  • Review Session (2): Have your professor sign off that you attended his/her review session or exam on your scheduled night to work and you're in the clear.
  • Make-up (2): If you're busy tonight but you free a different night, call in and let us know you're going to skip your shift tonight and make it up at another date.
  • Subs (unlimited): If you need the night off and you found someone to sub for you, then you're good to go.

Plus, the longer you work at MSU Greenline, the more of each excuse you'll have.

One perk of our flexible scheduling is that we allow you to control how much you receive on your paychecks. If you have time on your off-night, you are welcome to come in and work for a shift that you are not assigned to work. This is not a requirement, but it is a great way to earn some extra cash, and help to improve your raise for the next semester.

Scheduling

Every employee is guaranteed to be scheduled for a minimum of 11 hours a week, but never more than 15 hours. We know that students apply for jobs because they need extra money, but with classes to worry about at the same time, we don't want you to be overworked. As a caller you will be assigned to work either Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:15-9:30 PM or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:15-9:30 PM, based on what fits with your schedule. In addition to the weekday shifts, weekend shifts are assigned every other weekend, and include Fridays from 5:00-8:00 PM and Sundays from 1:00-8:00 PM.

Opportunity for Advancement

Everyone at Greenline started off as a student caller. We only promote from within, so each semester you will have an opportunity to apply for a supervisor or manager position.

The skills you gain as a caller, supervisor or manager in this organization will be unmatched resume builders. You will gain valuable communication and teamwork skills as a caller. As a supervisor you will learn how to effectively manage your own team of callers. Managers are in charge of specific departments such as training, recruiting, or PR and are responsible for carrying out the duties assigned to their department.
