MSU Greenline Gets Ghoulish For Halloween

"Spooky," "freaky," "crazy," "deranged" and "hype!" These are some of the words Greenliners used to describe the Halloween Theme Shift at Greenline headquarters. On October 30 and 31, 2013, calling shifts got into the scary spirit of the season. Costumed callers worked the phones while each team chose their best-dressed member for a costume contest finale.

Calling teams also competed with one another for prizes from local businesses. A night of friendly competition, the theme shift was enjoyed by all. According to student caller Marissa Kreutzfeld, "People get to express themselves differently, and you see everyone be funny and goofy. I don't know any other job on campus where they will let us do that." Throughout the night, callers got to mummify one another with toilet paper, pin the nose on the Jack O' Lantern, and take down zombie targets with foam darts. "Theme shifts are my favorite," said caller Tara Kujawa. "I really appreciate all the work the supervisors put in for us to have fun."

Theme shifts are a long-running tradition at Greenline. Student managers organize them up to twice per semester and they are a great opportunity for Greenliners to bring more of their own personality into the office. Theme shifts can be seasonal, but the Greenline staff has shown their creativity before with Survivor, disco, and Olympics theme shifts.

With nights like Halloween to look forward to, building a great atmosphere at Greenline makes it easier for callers to reach out to alumni. "We want our callers to participate so they get comfortable with each other. My team works better when the atmosphere is more fun and loose," said supervisor Joe Langston. When Greenline is more fun, callers are more motivated and programs all over campus get more support. Though the costumes might go back in the closet at the end of the night, the fun atmosphere at Greenline stays year-round.
